Senior Power BI Developer

We’re seeking a Senior Power BI Developer to join our growing team and help us unlock the power of data visualization, business intelligence, and reporting. This role will work closely with cross-functional teams to transform complex datasets into insightful, interactive dashboards that drive meaningful outcomes for mission-driven organizations.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports to meet business and client needs
Collaborate with internal stakeholders and clients to define KPIs, success metrics, and reporting requirements
Collaborate with developers and designers to support embedded Power BI reports within custom applications and align report UX with broader product experiences
Connect to a variety of data sources (SQL Server, Excel, APIs, etc.) and develop robust data models
Explore opportunities to extend Power BI capabilities through custom visuals or lightweight integrations when standard solutions fall short
Build and optimize DAX queries for performance and usability
Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and consistency across reporting assets
Translate complex data into clear visualizations and narratives for technical and non-technical audiences
Provide technical guidance on Power BI governance, security, and best practices
Document data flows, models, and dashboard logic for transparency and scalability
Train internal teams and clients on using Power BI reports and capabilities
Stay current with Power BI features and trends, recommending improvements to existing tools and approaches

Core Competencies

Expertise in Power BI desktop and service, including DAX, Power Query (M), and data modeling
Strong knowledge of relational databases, data warehouses, and writing complex SQL queries
Ability to interpret ambiguous requirements and turn them into structured, efficient dashboards
A deep understanding of data visualization best practices, usability principles, and storytelling with data
Awareness of Power BI embedding techniques and ability to work alongside web development teams to deliver integrated analytics experiences
Interest in or experience with customizing Power BI visuals to enhance interactivity, accessibility, or alignment with design systems
Detail-oriented and committed to accuracy and quality in all deliverables
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, especially with non-technical audiences
Strong time management and prioritization skills in a fast-paced, remote environment

Qualifications

5+ years of experience in BI development, with at least 3 years working with Power BI
Proven experience delivering impactful dashboards and reports in a client-facing or stakeholder-facing setting
Familiarity with Azure, Microsoft Fabric, Power Automate, or other components of the Power Platform is a plus
Experience in data transformation, ETL, or integrating data across multiple sources
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related field preferred
Microsoft Power BI certification is a plus
